Bisons today

Due to establishment of yellow Stone National Park (1872) bisons were able to settle and be protected. On 15 January 1883 hunting for most of the animals was prohibited.

Up to 1894 the bison population remaind at 800 which half lived in Yellow Stone Park.

Today there are 350’000 bisons in North America, which up to 5000 live in Yellow Stone Park.

The slogan is “Eat more buffalo”, because what you eat would not die away. Today native tribes bread bisons too. Bison has still its symbolic meaning of strenght and holyness.

In winter 05/06 about 1000 bisons have been slaughtered in Yellow Stone Park.
